The East African Youth Ambassadors Platform (EACYAP) Kenya Chapter, is set to hold a debate on the EAC regional integration agenda at the United States International University- Africa, (USIU) on March 25, 2014.

The USIU students, from across the African region, will engage with speakers on the benefits and opportunities that regional integration has opened up for students in particular and youth in general; as well as the key role of this critical age group in the integration process.

Similar debates are ongoing in Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda and Tanzania.  East African youths groups will next week gather in Kenyan for a debate on regional integration.

The debates to be hosted by the East African Youth Ambassadors Platform (EACYAP) Kenya Chapter, are supported by the EAC Secretariat, Ministries responsible for EAC Affairs in the Partner States and German International Cooperation (GIZ).

Participants from several universities in the region are expected to address the students, key among them representatives of East African legislative Assembly (EALA), East Africa Business Council (EABC), MEAC, and the EAC Secretariat.

The aim of the EACYAP holding sensitization forums is to create awareness on the EAC among university students and lecturers.

Previous sensitization fora have been held in Moi University, Eldoret; Kenyatta University Law campus; and Egerton University, attracting about 300 participants, including lecturers, from each of the universities.

More of such forums will be held in other universities with Technical University set to host the next one on April 4, 2014.

Currently, EACYAP is collaborating with the MEAC and the EAC Secretariat to hold EAC Awareness weeks spreading through March to April in 7 Universities in Kenya: University of Nairobi, Egerton, Maseno, KCA, Nazarene, Moi and Catholic Universities.

The forum are led and coordinated by University students identified in a competitive process dubbed the EAC University Students Debate.

The two best performing candidates from each Partner State are designated as EAC Youth Ambassadors to spearhead awareness programmes among the youth in their respective Universities and Partner States.
