The head of the IAAF Cross Country Committee, David Okeyo has approved the Africa Cross Country Championships course at Kololo Ceremonial Ground after he inspected the route Monday.

Okeyo is also the vice president of the Africa Athletics Confederation.

He is in the country together with CAA secretary general Faty Lamine from Senegal and technical delegate Eng. Siddig Ahmed Ibrahim from Sudan to inspect the facilities that will be used for the continental event due March 16 at Kololo.

“It is a good course and spectacular. We are looking at adding some more barriers to make it even more interesting,” said Okeyo after the inspection.

“As the head of the cross country committee, I want people to come to Uganda and enjoy what we have to offer at 1180m above sea level.

The AAC vice president added: “We are looking at Uganda to host the world event and the only way we can do this is by making the Africa Cross Country Championships a success.”

“The organisation is so far good and we are sure that by the time countries start arriving here, we will have all the best in place.”

Okeyo was taken around the course by head of technical Faustino Kiwa together with the national athletics federation head Dominic Otuchet and general secretary Beatrice Ayikoru, who is also a member of the IAAF cross country council.

The delegation is set to meet state sports minister Charles Bakkabulindi at 10am on Tuesday before summing up by meeting the local organising committee later in the day at 2pm.

They will address a press conference at 2.30pm at Kampala’s Imperial Royale Hotel.
