Cranes striker Yunus Ssentamu has been voted the Nile Special Uganda sports press Association (USPA) sportsman of the month of January during their monthly meeting held yesterday at the National Council of Sports headquarters.

Ssentamu was voted for his excellent performance during the Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) that was held in South Africa where he scored three goals.

He pooled 455 points. KCCA finished second with 420 points after winning the Mapinduzi Cup in Tanzania and while Ivy Amoko gathered 325points for winning the Rwabushenyi chess memorial tournament.

The Vipers forward is the youngest player to score for the Cranes team in open play since 1976.

Former Express FC player Kisitu scored for the Cranes in the 1976 Africa Cup of nation at the age of 19 years while Sadam Juma scored a penalty for Cranes during the CHAN tournament in Sudan in 2011.

USPA also commended Yunusu Babu of COPAB boxing club for his performance in the Intermediate boxing tournament.

The Ugandan basketball, handball team and netball teams also won in their respective disciplines at the Mapinduzi tournament and Woodball star Lilian Zawadde that won a bronze medal at the 2014 India International Woodball Championship.

USPA activities are sponsored by Nile Special, Rwenzori Water, Standard Chartered Bank, Victoria University and City Tyres.
