Founder president Jack Wavamunno bounces back as FMU boss

Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) founder president, Jack Wavamunno, has bounced back.

Wavamunno, who served for four years since 2001, garnered 39 votes, beating his closest rival Kisitu Mayanja, who managed 25 votes. 

Ten-time motocross champion, Arthur Blick Junior, was third with 18 votes at the FMU general assembly held at Silver Springs Hotel on Saturday.

Wavamunno, whose campaign message emphasised 'rehabilitation and reconstruction of the sport', thanked members for entrusting him with the authority to restore order in the sport that been bogged by leadership wrangles.

"I am the right person in the current environment and I hope that together we shall rebuild our sport," he remarked.

Motorsport Promo president, Dusman Okee, got 37 votes, beating FMU outgoing treasurer Herbert Rutagwera by five votes while Bryan Tumusiime had six votes.

Masadde Kabuye was elected duty vice president Vintage, safety and touring. Kabuye, with 46 votes, beat incumbent Tendo Mutale by 16 votes.

Mukiibi Katende manages 43 points, beating Jeff Kabagambe by nine votes to the position of deputy vice president motorsport while Joseph Mwangale (51) beat Hannington Kisooka (24) to retain the post of deputy vice president (motorcycling).

General secretary Reynolds Kibira registered the biggest victory with 64 votes as he waved off a feeble challenge from his assistant, Nevice Kizito (10).

Ronnie Ssekisambu beat Julius Sserunjogi and Nanet Blick to the position of assistant secretary.
