Construction of shs 1.2bn road project has been launched in Kampala. The project is part of the road fund from the central government through the Kampala Capital City Authority.

The 650mm Kamuli link project stretches from Kira town council up to Naalya Northern by-pass round about and is expected to reduce on the traffic congestion in the areas of Kireka, spear motors and Ntinda.

“This is a by-pass connecting From Banda stage Jinja road via Banda and Kyambogo to northern by pass, these places have been prone to traffic jam but we are hopeful that this road is going to help us to de-congest those areas,” said Benjamin Kalumba the LC 3 chairman Nakawa municipality.

The road was contracted to be done by Abubarker technical services at a tune of sh 1.2bn.

Speaking during the commissioning of the project in Kisosonkole zone in Kamuli a Kampala suburb on Wednesday, Kalumba urged the residents to cooperate in order to foster development in the entire Nakawa municipality.

He said the municipality had reaped a lot from the road fund and 17km have been tarmacked in the entire Nakawa municipality.

“After this road we are going to work on Kulambiro ring road, Kintu road, lake side road among others and by the end of our term, we expect to have worked on over 25 roads with first class tarmac,” he said.

He said that unlike other divisions and the Authority where they are quarreling all the time, Nakawa leaders decided to settle and work for their people.

He however said the project does not have a provision for compensation and asked all the affected people to extend their perimeter walls to pave way for the enlargement of the road. “We still have a challenge of the people who want to be compensated.

Since it is a by-pass road, it requires being wide enough and we are not able to compensate any one, but we request every one to appreciate and accept the goodness of the service and pave way for the project,” he requested.

The project Engineer Christopher Katongole said the project requires extension of the utilities like power and water. “We would like the utility companies like Umeme to extend the transformer which is affected by the project,” he requested.

Frederick Kagga the councilor representing Banda ward expressed optimism that the project is to add value to the area and also foster business development.

“As a result of this project, we hope the price of the house rent will rise, road side business will be boosted with no dust and cases of theft will be reduced,” he believed.
