Col. Innocent Oula the fourth 4th Division Commander has today won the army elections to replace Gen David Sejusa that took place today at Bombo barracks. President of Uganda Yoweri Museveni who also doubles as the Commander-in-Chief participated in the elections.
Oula won with 62 votes followed by Maj Joram Mugume with 56 votes. Oula contested in the race with Maj. Joram Mugume, Maj. Jacob Musajjawaza, and  Lt. Gen Andrew Guti.
Museveni hands nominations to EC boss Kiggundu
Col Oula replaces Gen Sejusa who represented the army in parliament before he fled to the UK.
EC spokesperson, Jotham Taremwa told New Vision that the elections were free and fair. “The elections were free and so far no one has filled any complaint pertaining the elections that took place,” Taremwa says.
Sejusa, formerly the coordinator of intelligence services, left the country without official leave from the army (AWOL) and is now on a self-imposed exile reportedly in the UK.
The army effectively declared the renegade army man a deserter towards the end of last year.
President Museveni said early last October that Sejusa was “already a deserter who made a lot of mistakes”, and that he would be “handled according to the law”.
Despite being warned by Speaker Rebecca Kadaga to return to Parliament or else lose his seat, the army general did not appear, leading to the loss of his position in the House
