Tanzania Vodacom League

Simba 3 Yanga

YOUNG Africans (Yanga SC) chairperson Yusuf Manji has maintained hope in their newly signed Uganda Cranes forward Emma Okwi.

“We felt that we needed him (Okwi) in our team to up our bid from last year’s loss. He was a thorn in our defence and he troubled us very much,” Manji told futaa.com

“I have faith that we will be better in the second leg. Okwi (right) has added strength to our already strong squad and I know we will be better than Simba in the long run.”

Young Africans gave the former Simba SC striker a two and a half year contract just hours before closure of the transfer window and he was on target for them against rivals Simba in the Vodacom League.

Okwi scored Yanga’s only goal as they lost the first leg 3-1. Manji said that they had signed the striker to inflict the same pain he orchestrated against them (Yanga SC) when Simba trounced them 5-0 in 2012.

Okwi, who received a heroic welcome before the derby last Saturday, joined fellow Ugandan Hamis Kiiza and the experienced lot of Mrisho Ngassa, Didier Kavumbagu and Haruna Niyonzima.
