Hellen Lukoma has done many things in her life, from being part of the Obsessions dancing group, to the HB Toxic, to being an actor in the Hostel TV series.

But we did not know her as a designer, so last Tuesday she organized a fashion show at Club Silk to unveil her collection.

But Silk Management almost turned it into a disaster, due to some very unfortunate and almost silly decisions. The show was supposed to start at 9pm, but nothing happened till well after midnight.

One of the Managers said that they were waiting for people to show up, and they would not let Hellen start the show.

By the time the first models took to the catwalk, almost everybody was drunk and gave no attention to the fashion show. A group that was supposed to perform as part of the entertainment got tired of waiting, and left.

After calling for them several times, MC Kats declared they had gone “to cook for their husbands”.

After the first set of outfits was shown, there was a long break where the Emcee counted down the year’s best songs. By the time this reporter left at 2.00am local time, the countdown was still going on, and the models had not appeared again.

We have seen Lukoma as a musician and as an actor, and we really wanted to see her as a designer. That did not happen, thanks to Club Silk management. They really should be ashamed of themselves, and give Lukoma her money back.

But it also questionable why Lukoma chose to hold her debut show at Club Silk, where people are more interested in having a party than looking at clothes.
