KAMPALA-MASAKA highway - Three people died instantly in a fatal accident in Lwera near Nabyewanga trading center in Mpigi district on Kampala-Masaka highway when the driver of a saloon car lost control and hit a boda boda (motorcycle) rider.

The car and the motorcycle were travelling in opposite directions along the highway that is notorious for accidents.

At around 9.00pm local time (EAT) on Friday, the Masaka-bound Toyota Corona rammed hard into a rider who was traveling to Nabyewanga.

Two men and a woman were killed.

Traffic policemen attached to Nabyewanga police post identified the dead as Geofrey Mpagi of Nabyewanga and Ivan Mubiru, a boda boda rider in Lukaya town, Kalungu district. The identity of the woman could not be established by press time.

Occupants of the burnt car escaped unhurt, eye witnesses said. Their car exploded into flames moments after the fatal accident.

The three bodies were driven to Gombe hospital for postmortem while the wreckage of the crashed motorcycle and the burnt car were towed off to Buwama police station.

It was not readily clear who, of the driver and the rider, was in fault.
