STEPHEN Kiprotich will draw up a two-year programme which will climax with his defence of the IAAF World championships marathon title.
Kiprotich won the title in Moscow in August this year and he will be defending it in 2017 when he lines up in the same event in Beijing, China.
“I know that unlike the past events where I was thought of as an outsider, I will be going into this event as the defending champion. There will be so many plots that I will have to overcome,” said Kiprotich as he received the athlete-of-the-year award at the athletics awards dinner.
“I am going to sit down with my managers and come up with a good programme,” said Kiprotich.
Kiprotich beat World Mountain running gold medallist Philip Kiplimo and Mumbai marathon winner Jackson Kiprop, to take the winner’s award which came with a sh1.5m cash prize.
It was the second time in a row after taking the accolade in 2012.
