Former MP Higiro Ssemajjege dies

KAMPALA - Former Member of Parliament, Dr. Festo Higiiro Ssemajjege has died.

Ssemajjege died Saturday morning at Mulago Hospital, Kampala where he had been admitted with cancer.

The former legislator was a highly qualified and experienced economist and held a PhD in economics from the University of Southern California, U.S.A.

He worked as a consultant for the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, (UNCTAD); and the African Union (formerly Organization of the Africa Unity).

Ssemajege also served as the Deputy Speaker of Buganda Lukiiko (Parliament), chairman of the committee on Economy in the Parliament of Uganda and Secretary to Constitutional Review Commission.
