GOTV CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup

Uganda 2 (2) Tanzania 2 (3): (
Uganda loses on penalties)

The GOTv CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup will have a new champion this year after defending champions Uganda Cranes were eliminated out at the quarterfinals after going down to Tanzania 3-2 on penalties in the Kenyan coastal city of Mombasa.

The Cranes failed to extend their dominance of the regional title as a 10-man Kilimanjaro Stars held on for a 2-2 draw in normal time and pushed matters to penalties at Aga Khan stadium.

It was a nervous start that saw Evaristo Nyoni hit the bar while Godfrey Walusimbi shot over in the opening shots for Tanzania and Uganda respectively.

But Amri Kiemba, Uthman Idi and Kelvin Nyondani calmly put Tanzania through to the last four.

Emmanuel Okwi and Hamis Kiiza went on target for Uganda but the Cranes chances saw their chances blown away as opposite number one Ivo Mapunda frustrated Dan Sserunkuma's staggering effort.

Dan Sserunkuma had scored for Uganda in the 16th minute before Mrisho Ngasa who leveled two minutes later put Tanzania up when he beat keeper Benjamin Ochan from a free kick after 39 minutes.

Martin Mpunga leveled it when he tapped home in the 73rd minute.

Cranes line-up:

B.Ochan, N.Wadada, G.Walusimbi, R.Kasagga, M.Mpuga, A.Khalid, H.Diego, G.Kizito (S.Kyeyune), D.Sserunkuuma, J.Mpande (B.Majwega), E.Okwi.
