Fire gutted a Fuso lorry on Masaka-Kampala highway destroying over ten tonnes of maize flour it was transporting.
According to AIP John Ojera, the traffic boss, Kalungu district, the incident occurred in the wee hours of Wednesday morning at Kamutuuza Village, a few kilometers from Lukaya.
Fire is reported to have started from the rear wheel engulfing the Fuso Lorry registration, number UAL 171B, in huge flames. No one was reported injured.

However AIP Ojera added that the driver, Boas Muhangi and his turn boy Mose Kakiga of Rukungiri managed to escape unhurt. They said at Lukaya Police that they were heading to Rukungiri from Kampala.
Muhangi said that when he reached Kamutuuza hill the vehicle seemed faulty as he failed to engage a gear.
The truck stopped moving and immediately fire sparked from the rear wheel. Their efforts, with the help of locals to save the merchandise, were futile until a fire brigade truck arrived. All that was left at the scene was a smouldering wreckage of the truck.
The truck driver, Muhangi makes a frantic call following the incident
Traffic police said that the fire was a a result of the over loaded truck causing friction in the wheels and bursting into flames.
Francis Musimire, the owner of the maize flour who was not on board condemned the fire brigade for the delay because he said drove from Rukungiri to the scene before the fire brigade truck had arrived.
