IN his bid to win the event on his first appearance, Stephen Kiprotich will be boosted by the entry of Jackson Kiprop in Sunday’s New York marathon.
It is the 3rd ranked marathon in the world with a total cash prize of $700,000 (sh1.8bn).
Kiprop’s presence played an inspirational role as Kiprotich won the Moscow World Championships marathon, and it could still be a boost to the Ugandan runner, who wants to crown the year with another big marathon win.
The bookies have made him favourite to win the race.
“He (Kiprop) has been entered in the race and that will be very good for Stephen. They have been training together in Kaptagat and they trained together even before the Moscow championships. They will put up a good show,” said manager Jurrie Van Der Velden.
Kiprop ran alongside Kiprotich in Moscow before he fell off the lead pack to finish 10th overall.
