The Democratic Party (DP) has called for the trial of two Pakistani nationals accused of gang raping and sodomising a 23-year-old woman.
Addressing journalists at the party headquarters in Kampala, the DP presidential press secretary, Fred Mwesigwa, condemned the act as “inhuman” and urged government to be strict on some foreigners posing as investors.
“DP condemns this inhuman act on the innocent woman who was trying to find job, only to land in the hands of these monsters. Some investors have become a liability than an asset to this country and gov’t should be very strict on them,” he said.
He added: “This case has caused uproar in the country with some policemen being accused of having taken a bribe to kill the case. We call upon the Inspector General of Police, Kale Kayihura, to bring these officers to book.”
The two Pakistani nationals were on Friday charged in court and remanded to Luzira Maximum security prison till next month for allegedly raping and ‘‘performing a sexual offence against the order of nature’’ on the woman.
The lady, names withheld, was working for the men as a house helper at the time of the rape, which reportedly occurred in July. She alleged that the culprits had bribed the officer handling her case before she sought assistance from the media.
The Police issued a public notice and published pictures of the two Pakistani men on the run in the media calling on whoever had information about their whereabouts to report to the nearest police.
Police identified the men as Zuheer Mohamed and Sadiq Muhammad.
