Trapped in a rapid succession of disasters ranging from floods, the ebola scourge, fires, droughts, famine, collapsing buildings and terrorism, Uganda will join the rest of the world to commemorate the International Day of Disaster Reduction (IDDR) on October 17 at Speke Resort Munyonyo.
“We will not wait for disasters to happen but prevent them,” stated a press release from the permanent secretary, Office of the Prime Minister Christine Guwatudde.
“The goal is to be disaster resilient, have an informed populace and generally get involved.”
The disaster preparedness minister, Hillary Onek, will crown the symposium by launching the national policy on disaster preparedness and management.
The day will be marked under the theme: securing the future; building resilience through disaster management and climate change adaptation.
