Llyboc is one of the emerging Hip Hop talents on the Ugandan music scene. Pulled from the underground through a talent search, Ali of Talent Africa blended Llyboc’s lyrical volatility in the dynamic trio we now know as Airportaxi. Humphrey Wampula caught up with him and got an exclusive peek into his life.
Tell me about yourself.
I am a driven, result-oriented (whether a score or fail), eager -to-deliver kind of person.
Who is Llyboc in the Hip Hop industry?
Llyboc is a game changer.
There is a bunch of good Hip Hop talent in Uganda that is still underground. How did you beat the odds?
Many are called, but few are chosen. If you listen to my, or Airportaxi music, there’s a huge difference between us and the rest.
You were just an ambitious campus lad a year ago. How does it feel to watch youself on Channel O, even before some of the pioneers?
Feel no different. Get back to me with that question after Channel O, MTV or VMA awards, then I’ll tell you how I really feel.
Some call you the new Navio. Has it played in your favour?
Nature or life has humour too. I don’t think the resemblance has played any role in gettin’ me here. It’s in the skill. Never forget that. In fact, it (the resemblance), has brought scrutiny.
How would you describe your swag?
Left swag in the ICU, then removed U and added IC to class. Hope that answers it.
Which music do you have on your iPod?
Rap/hip-hop I’d say Slaughterhouse, Eminem, Cory Gunz, J. Cole, Tory Lanez, Reign Man, Locksmith, Drake, Jin, Kendrick…just to mention but a few, while others include Mario, Usher, Miguel, Jamie Foxx and countless more. It’s massive!
Who or what does Llyboc owe his success to?
I don’t count myself successful yet. So get back to me on that too.
What is your attitude on a daily?
Variant. There are always highs and lows. A diff day, a diff attitude. I think they call it bein’ human, aint it?
If you were to be re-incarnated, who would you want to come back as and why?
Hope that question includes the past and present because I’d say Jesus. I would ascend from heaven every now and then to heal and assure guys what’s up!
You are too composed and confident for a rookie. So, how cool is it to be you?
Oh, it’s not easy being in the mainstream, especially in UG. You gotta keep on working hard and doing a lot of thinking-being innovative and trying out new and different styles. It’s tiring, but worthwhile too.
How can you compare the industry from the time of the days of the likes of Babaluku, Klear Kut and Batabazi and now?
Ever since Airportaxi, there have been and are going to be a lot of changes in the long run. For now, it’s still in the same state. But that’s my opinion!
