AS Heathens launch their quest for the East Africa Rugby Super Cup trophy in the first leg fixture against hosts Nakuru RFC in Nakuru on Saturday another experienced player has ruled out traveling with the team due to work commitments.
Arguably the country’s best and most experienced scrumhalf Faizal Gama has been ruled out of the game at the eleventh hour after his employers Hima Cement assigned him duty in Lira this weekend.
“He is not only the best scrum half but the best communicator and also a tackler that the team will miss in his department,” team captain Michael Wokorach confirmed the development.
Wokorach who captained the Rugby Cranes in the CAR tournament in Madagascar was again handed an armband by coach Brian Tabaruka after Mathias Ochwo and Alex Mubiru were both ruled due to injury.
“I think I learnt a lot when I captained the national team and I will use that experience to communicate better both on and off pitch so that we return with victory,” Wokorach stated.
He further explained that there no worries for the injured players because their replacements are good and have stepped in their shoes several times before.
“We have won several games without them. What is more important is the boys executing all our moves effectively and we shall return victorious,” he added.
Heathens will face Nakuru minus their most experienced hooker Alex Mubiru, Lock Mathias Ochwo, Flanker Scot Oluoch and winger Bishop Onen and they will be replaced by Paul Sserunjogi, Roland Bahendeka and Ronnie Musoke respectively.
The annual tournament to be played on the home and away basis will have a return leg played at Kyadondo Rugby Club.
