University Football League
Ndejje 2 Uganda Martyrs 1
MUBS v Mbarara
Makerere v Kampala University
SAMUEL Matovu and Yunus Luwagga scored in each half as Ndejje secured their fifth win of the University Football League in Luweero on Thursday.
The result did not alter much on the table but it keeps fourth placed Ndejje in prime position to sneak into the top three.
Moses Okot picked the consolation for Uganda Martyrs who are rooted at the bottom of the eight team table, when he converted a penalty in the 78th minute of the game.
Third placed Makerere University Business School hosts Mbarara University of Science and Technology at the MUBS Arena on Friday but the home side will continue with their second choice goalkeeper Erias Mbago.
First choice custodian Ramadhan Masaba’s expected return has been delayed because of his slow recovery since he got injured against Kampala International University two weeks ago.
But coach Charles Ayieko will need to ignore MUBS fans, who have always gotten agitated with Mbago between the posts. The goalkeeper often loses concentration and lets in what the coach has referred to as lousy goals.
“I can blame his loss of morale on the fans who have never trusted him to keep goal for us. They always boo him and he has failed to ignore them. We have no option and I will have in goal,” Ayieko said.
And with MUST’s sharp shooter and league top scorer Siraje Musinde (8 goals) leading their attack, MUBS could be risking humiliation in their own back yard.
MUBS lost their previous match to Ndejje while MUST suffered the same fate at Nkumba University but the first round encounter between MUBS and MUST ended 4-1 for the Nakawa based side in Mbarara.
MUST currently lies 7th on the league table and MUBS is third with 19 points and not even a win for either of them will alter the standings.
