DEFENDING champion Jas Mangat has reverted to the Subaru N12 for this weekend’s Independence Rally in which he is expected to seal the 2013 national championship.
Mangat whose new Mitsubishi EvoX developed mechanical failure that forced him out of the Rwanda Rally two weeks ago, is back to the Subaru N12 which he last competed in at the beginning of the season.
Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) administrator Steven Okwonga confirmed that Mangat had registered the Subaru N12.
With two national championship races and three sprints left on the calendar, Mangat who is 201 points ahead of second-placed Ronald Ssebuguzi simply needs to score 30 points ( finishing at least 6th) to retain the title.
The Independence Rally which has attracted 34 crews will start with a super special stage at Festino Cite double track circuit in Mukono on Saturday and the second leg will cover nine competitive sections in the same district on Sunday.
Focus on Africa title
Mangat needs to seal the national title this weekend to fully focus on the Rally of Madagascar in November.
The Africa title contest between Mangat (83 points) and Zambian Jassy Singh (81) will be settled in Madagascar on the last day of the Africa championship.
The national championship in Uganda ends in December with the Mountain Elgon Rally.
