The Inspector General Police, Gen Kale Kayihura has ordered for the arrest of Francis Chemusto, the Division Police Commander (DPC), Kabalagala Police, in connection to an incident where a private security guard allegedly shot his employer who died moments later.
When contacted by New Vision, Farouk Mwirima, the deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police commander could not confirm the arrest.
However, he said a group of detectives attached to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) were at the Kabalagala Police investigating on certain issues.
He said the SIU “wanted to clarify on certain things”.
But police sources told New Vision Tuesday that DPC Chemusto is being held at the SIU.
Sunday night, a private guard attached to Delta Force, a private security firm was reported to have shot dead the managing director of Big Boss Universal Limited, Sharma Harish.
Police spokesperson, Judith Nabakooba on Monday said Najjib Buruhani “abandoned the gun he allegedly used in the shooting and took off to an unknown destination”.
Police are now hunting the suspect who remains at large.
While on night duty Sunday night, Buruhani approached Harish and demanded for his due payment but all in vain, Nabakooba told reporters.
The security guard later shot Harish in the chest.
Harish died from gunshot wounds on his way to Kampala International Hospital.
Police records indicate that at the time of the incident, Harish was balancing books at his office located on Bunga hill.
Harish, 31, was set to travel to India next week for his marriage ceremony. His body is still at Kampala International Hospital, according to police.
Gen Kayihura is to meet heads of all private security firms at the police headquarters to discuss a number of issues, among which is the recruitment of guards and the looming threat of terrorism in the region.
