UGANDA Hotel Owners Association is to embark on training of hoteliers, security guards and shopping mall operators beginning on Thursday to avert any terrorist attack.
This follows the terror attack at the Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi, Kenya last Saturday in which 69 people died and over 170 others injured.
The training will be conducted by Gideon Men (GM) Security Africa Limited which has expertise on counter terrorism.
The security awareness is specifically designed for security guards, those working in shopping malls, hospitals, supermarkets, security organisations, hoteliers and operational teams.
The training is intended to equip participants with basic security awareness and observation skills to detect wrong elements and knowledge to help them work effectively in an effort to fight terrorism.
It will take place at Uganda Institute of Information and Communication Technology, Nakawa in Kampala from 2:00pm to 4:30 pm.
Enock Makanga, the chief executive officer of GM Security pointed out that the areas to be covered include effective hotel and supermarket security operations, security observation and detection skills and best security practices.
The other is effective counter terrorism measures for hotels and shopping malls. The training will be backed by Police Joint Anti- terrorism unit.
Participants expected to attend include hotel owners, hotel front office managers, private security companies, hotel security managers and operational officers/managers.
Others are supermarket security managers and supervisors and shopping mall operators.
