The Government and tourism sector players are launching a new campaign to promote the country as a favourable destination.The launch will take place in Fort Portal during the tourism week. The campaign will also involve promotion of domestic tourism.
Speaking to New Vision recently, Maria Mutagamba, the Minister for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities argued that there is need for Ugandans to tour local tourism destinations in their country.
“The one way Uganda can woo international tourists is by first attracting its citizens into the sector,” she said.
According to Isaiah Rwanyekiro, the coordinator of the events, Uganda Wildlife Authority will give Ugandan citizens free entrance to national parks and tourism sites. To benefit from the fee entry, one has to register with the Uganda Tourism Board.
President Yoweri Museveni is expected to preside over the World Tourism Day celebrations in Fort Portal on September 27.
The activities are jointly being organised by the tourism ministry, Uganda Tourism Board, Uganda Wildlife Authority, Uganda Wildlife Education Centre and Toro kingdom.
They will include a five-day culture tourism exhibition at Boma Grounds, guided tours of Kibaale National Park and community tours.
