Super League fixtures
Namboole: SCVU v Vipers
Nakivubo: SC Villa v URA
Mbale: CRO v Entebbe
Kavumba: Police v Bidco
FRESH from a win over army side Simba, URA have yet another chance of boosting their Super League title-winning fortunes when they take on SC Villa today.
The four-time champions will be one of the eight teams in action as Uganda’s top football competition goes into its fourth week this evening.
A win for the tax collectors will have them taking a one point lead in the 16-team race that currently has newcomers Soana in charge.
For coach Paul Nkata, the match could also turn out as one of those emotional assignments. Nkata popularly known as “Latest” because of his midfield skills during his playing days, not only featured for the Jogoos, but also coached the same side.
For Villa, there can’t be a better moment to seek motivation. The Jogoos are just recovering from a 3-1 loss to Bidco.
Elsewhere, the Victoria University versus Vipers match is another encounter with all the makings of a thriller. A win for the university side will also propel them to the top of the table. They are currently level with URA on seven points.
For Vipers, tonight’s encounter is a grudge match. They will be facing a coach who has twice denied them Uganda Cup silverware.
Alex Isabirye last year beat Vipers in the final, a year after beating the same opposition at a similar stage while still at URA.
Isabirye will however miss the services of his defence pillar Denis Iguma, who is yet to recover from a muscle injury he suffered during Uganda’s 1-0 World Cup qualifying defeat against Senegal.
Bottom-placed Entebbe will be looking for their first point when they face Mbale side CRO, who have themselves lost all their three opening matches.
