HE has built a reputation by guiding teams to domestic football’s top show. Bunamwaya and BUL are some of the teams that earned promotion to the Super League under his tutelage.
Coach Richard Makumbi went a step better by masterminding Soana’s elevation to the league last season. Whether he can go enrich his credentials by winning his first league crown is yet to be seen.
Makumbi has so far shown his ambitions by going on top of the league table with nine points after three straight wins. The team is two points better than Victoria University and Uganda Revenue Authority (URA).
Defending champions KCC were Makumbi’s latest victims as they went down 2-1 in one of the games on Friday.
An own goal by attacking midfielder Peter Ssenyonjo put KCC ahead before their opponents grabbed the equaliser at Lugogo.
But Ssenyonjo beat an offside trap, passed the ball to Siraje Turyamureba who later re¬leased Francis Olaki who found the target.
Later, Olaki missed a penalty but made up when he intercepted a pass before scoring the winner.
Former champions URA also maintained their unbeaten start with a 2-0 victory over Simba. Goals by Ali Feni and Eria Ssekisambu, who were set up by Saidi Kyeyune, gave URA the win in Lugazi.
Elsewhere, Victoria University continued their title charge by drawing 1-1 draw with Entebbe at Wankulukuku.
In the other game, 16-time champions SC Villa went down 3-1 to BUL at Kakindu. Crespo Asiku, Robert Achema and Titto Okello scored for the Victoria side.
Action continues on Tuesday.
