AMURU District Football Association (DFA) soccer team earned three points after it registered a first win with a 2-1 goal in a derby against Nwoya DFA at Pece War Memorial stadium in Gulu municipality yesterday evening.
Amuru’s two goals came from Stephen Opiyo and a substitute player, Denis Komakech in the 26th and 80th minutes of the thrilling evening match.
Amuru squandered several chances through their main attacking players, Richard Onencan and Kenneth Oyoo who failed to use five chances that went off targets.
Nwoya DFA opened the score board only 14 minutes into the match through a lone goal netted by Onen-Okwanga.
Nwoya’s goal came through the team’s game-maker, Yesu Fred, the team captain who was substituted later in the 70th minute.
The win puts both Amuru and Nwoya each with three points Amuru only beats Nwoya on goal difference to take the second and third positions in table standings in group B.
Gulu DFA, which is also defending champions from last year’s first edition, still leads the group A with three points and two goals scored.
Actions continue tomorrow (today) with three matches with Agago DFA Vs Amolatar DFA at 9:00 AM, Otuke DFA Vs Gulu DFA at 2:00 PM and Amolar Vs Amuru DFA at 4:00 PM at Pece War Memorial stadium.
The final will be played on Sunday, 15 at 3:00 PM when the sponsor, former FUFA President, Lawrence Mulindwa is expected to be the Chief Guest. He will also hand over cash price awards to the winning, runners up one and two on that day.
Mulindwa gave sh5m to the winning teams to kick start the first edition last year that was hosted by Lira DFA for Lango sub-region.
This is talent-tapping tournament that enrolls only players that are licensed under FUFA 5th Division and other players from the grassroots. Players already captured under FUFA 4th, 3rd, 2nd (FUFA Big-League) and Uganda Super League is ineligible.
