India Day is a celebration of India’s independence, history and culture. It is filled with the tastes, sounds and sights of India.
Over two days of celebration, the Indian and Ugandan community alike were given an unparalleled opportunity to sample all things Indian, to get a tad closer to India, including food, dance, entertainment and culture.
Airtel Uganda commenced celebrations with a special dinner event at the Sheraton Hotel on Friday evening.
It was a strictly-invite dinner attended by the Indian High Commissioner to Uganda, members of the Andhra Cultural Association and other prominent members of the Indian community in Uganda as well as various business and community leaders.
Then on Saturday evening, all roads led to Lugogo Cricket Oval for the sequel of the celebrations in a highly attended concert by a chart topping Bollywood musician, Mika Singh.
Even though the concert was open for everyone, it entirely teemed of a sea of Indian faces. They turned up in large numbers, Indians, aching to see the Bollywood star better known as “The Badshah of Bollywood”.
It kicked off at around 8pm with cultural performances. There was also an award rewarding session rewarding achievers in different sectors: academics, sports, manufacturing, and Airtel Uganda, the sponsors of the event, scooped an award for its immense support for projects like Airtel Rising Stars.

The guest of honur was Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Irene Muloni who represented First lady Janet Museveni. She received 10 million shillings, on First lady’s behalf, for charity in Karamoja from Andhra Cultural Association.
Two-time gold medalist, Stephen Kiprotich made it to the stage, amidst a thunderous roar from the mammoth crowd, and thanked the Indian community for their heartfelt support.
Thereafter, fireworks were blasted and glistened the skies, inexplicable excitement hang heavy in the air as everyone shouted so loud and joyously.
Mika Singh wrapped up the event with an exhilarating performance as his legions of fans danced, sang and held on to every song he pelted.
