PETER Ssendawula overcame a huge scare in the form of Robert Oluba to claim his second Uganda Open title at Entebbe Golf Club on Saturday.
Ssendawula who teed off the closing round two strokes clear of Willy Kitatta and five ahead of Oluba had a dismal front nine holes.
A dismal front nine saw him bogey hole no.2, and double bogeyed the third and ninth holes to slip one stroke behind Oluba while Kitatta's game went haywire, backing out of contention as he lost his composure - breaking a club in a fit of anger.
Ssendawula lined up three birdies on the back nine and by hole number 16, he had taken a two-shot lead that he firmly held and later stretched on the par 5 hole 18 which he birdied as Oluba picked a bogey having struggled from the rough and then putted thrice.
With a closing round 72 for a four-day aggregate of 288 he beat Oluba to the title by four strokes. He won his first title on the same course in 2009 and turned professional but he is hesitant to return to the professionals ranks.
"I am not yet settled so I will have to find a sponsor before I go professional. It has been very competitive," Ssendawula said.
In the professional event Vincent Byamukama from Entebbe beat Kenyan Richard Ainley by six shots to claim the sh5.3m top cash prize courtesy of Tusker.
