NEWCOMERS Bright Stars got a reminder of just how harsh life in the top flight can be when they narrowly lost 1-0 to Victoria University at Nakivubo on Friday evening.
The devastating loss left former Cranes midfielder turned coach, Livingstone Mbabazi speechless after the match following his team’s resilient display only to concede a late winner against the defending Uganda Cup champions.
Bright Stars soaked up the pressure for long periods in the game but fortune deserted them in the 80th minute when SCVU stalwart Manko Kaweesa’s shot came off the post and rolled into the net while a stranded Davis Mutebi in goal looked on haplessly.

Substitute Ismail Kigozi almost grabbed an equaliser in the 85th minute but instead he watched on in agony as his attempt cannoned off the cross bar.
“The first match of any team is always difficult and that’s what we felt. Bright Stars is a new team and we did not know how they move and gave us a hard time until experience bailed us out. I am now focusing on our next match against Masaka LC and we shall polish mistakes with time,” said SCVU coach Alex Isabirye after the match.
At Namboole, Baker Lukooya scored for Kira Young before Umar Kasumba levelled matters for Police FC in a one all draw.
At Kakindu, BUL FC drew 0-0 with URA while at Wankulukuku, Express FC were held to a goaless draw by the unfancied Entebbe FC.
