ANOTHER day and another country enters the FIVB Kampala Beach Volleyball Open, due September 24 –29.

Welcome Belarus, number 53 and 38 in the men and women’s world rankings respectively.

“Many more teams are picking up registration forms for the Kampala Open and we will most probably end up with a very large number of teams into this first ever African leg of the FIVB Beach Volleyball Open,” said Eddie Okila, director House of Talent, promoters of the event.

Now the total number of countries expected in Kampala stands at 24 and counting, a fact that will translate into a foreign currency windfall for the Ugandan economy.

“This is very good news for volleyball in Uganda but also big news for our economy,” added Okila.

“We may see a large number of sports tourists coming into the country so I urge all businessmen to prepare to rake in some dollars.”

In another positive development, the Kampala Open organisers received a consignment of 80 Mikasa balls and perimeter flags yesterday that will be used in the event expected to attract thousands of visitors.

The balls are specially designed to resist strong gushes of wind synonymous with beach volleyball.

This equipment comes a week after the arrival of 80% of the sand needed for the global tournament, the first of its kind to be held in Africa.

The sand has special draining capacities that keep it effective even when it rains.
