Retired Supreme Court judge George Kanyeihamba, has been sued for purportedly defaming a one Mrs. Hope Mwine Kashozi Asiimwe Cove, with claims that he branded her a crook who concocts marriages.

According to court documents filed on Thursday at the civil division of the High Court in Kampala, Kashozi's contention stems from a notice of annulment of marriage of Kashoz to one Frank Mwine(ex-UCB boss). It was isued by Kanyeihamba, and published in the New Vision of December 16, 2011.

Through Akampumuza  and Company Advocates, plus Simon Tendo Kabenge and Company Advocates, Kashozi asserts that Kanyeihamba caused the publication of the notice, with full knowledge that it was malicious and scandalous.

"The plaintiff shall at the trial contend that the words in their natural and ordinary meaning, the defendant(Kanyeihamba) meant that the plaintiff is a woman of easy virtue and loose morals who is a two timer targeting men's property," Kashozi contends.

Additionally, she asserts that Kanyeihamba created an impression that she is a pretentious self-imposing woman holding out as married to Dr Mwine. Kashozi is aggrieved that Kashozi branded her a fraudster out to dupe the unsuspecting public and sell to them property that does not belong to her.

She further states that Kanyeihamba caused her mental anguish, as he depicted her as a danger to society and an outcast who should be shunned. Kashozi is demanding damages plus an apology published with prominence in both the New Vision and Monitor. She also wants Kanyeihamba to be permanently restained from making any statements regarding her marriage.

Court documents show that last year on October 22, Kashozi sent Kanyeihamba a notice of intention to sue, in which she demanded sh200m to drop the case. However, Kanyeihamba did not respond to it.

Kanyeihamba is yet to file his defence. Court is yet to schedule a hearing date.
