JUST when you thought the Freedom City Challenge Rally dust had settled, a fellow competitor is baying for national championship leader Ponsiano Lwakataka’s head.

According to Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) vice president Mukiibi Katende, crew No.16 of Omar Mayanja has petitioned the federation seeking to exclude Lwakataka from the rally results.

He has queried the stewards’ decision to clear Lwakataka of accusations of using two time cards.

“We have received the petition that was fi led, taken information from stewards and appointed a probe committee that will be announced soon. All competitors and fans should be calm as we investigate,” FMU secretary Reynods Kibira said in a separate interview yesterday.

Consta Karumuna who at some point led the race by eight second also complained to stewards claiming Lwakataka could have had a hand in an accident in which his car ran into huge stones in section 6. Kibira argued that using two time cards did not give the crew advantage but it could be punishable by disqualification.

Lwakataka was furious about the accusation and threatened to quit the sport if rivalry shifted to the boardroom.

“I have had more serious competition with people like Moses Lumala, Ssebuguzi, Jimmie Whyte and late Riyaz Kurji but that has never happened. I don’t consider Consta a competitor. In fact I am the one who trains him. Would you really kill your crawling son? This is mudslinging,” he said.
