Nekyon a former Member of Parliament held various ministerial posts

A close relative confirmed that  the 82-year-old  veteran politician Akbar Adoko Nekyon was admitted at Kampala International Hospital over the weekend with a spine problem which has since been corrected through surgery.

Seeking anonymity, the relative however said that Mzee Nekyon’s condition is still unstable.

Nekyon, first cousin to fallen President Apollo Milton Obote, has held leadership positions in several political parties including Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) and Democratic Party (DP).

He also served as a minister in the early days of the NRM government.

Now retired, Nekyon a former Member of Parliament, held various ministerial posts  as :Minister for Information and Tourism, Minister for Planning and Community Affairs, Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Co-operatives, Minister for Health and  was also  General Manager of  the defunct Uganda Airlines
