The Anti- Corruption Court deputy registrar on Monday ordered Uganda Prisons authority to produce city tycoon Hassan Basajjabalaba and his brother Muzamiru Basajjabalaba in court on Wednesday March 13.

The Chief Magistrate Irene Akankwasa last week remanded the siblings to Luzira prisons after they were committed to the high court for trial.

The deputy registrar Fred Waninda  in letter to Prisons, stated that , “you are hereby  commanded  by the Uganda  government  to produce the said Hassan Basajjabalaba  (AI)  and Muzamiru Basajjabalaba to the Anti- Corruption Court  before  Hon . Lady Justice Catherine Bamugemereire as the bail application in this matter shall be heard on 13th day of March, 2013 at 9:00am.”

Anti- Corruption Court Chief Magistrate Irene Akankwasa   cancelled their bail saying it is an exceptional circumstance where colossal amount of money is involved and there was need to cancel the bail. The magistrate said she was aware of the constitutional court ruling of Kutesa and three others but she added that bail does not automatically lapse upon committal of an accused person.

The siblings  are charged with conspiracy and uttering false documents arising from tax disputes of sh20b are seeking granted bail saying it is their constitutional right.
