The General Court Martial (GCM) in Kampala has convicted and sentenced two civilians to 13 years in prison each for aggravated robbery and unlawful possession of fire arms.

The convicts Ali Mwesigwa 37 and Peter Mwesigwa 35 both residents of Kisoga in Mukono district were sentenced by court presided over by the GCM chairman Brig. Fred Tolit on Tuesday.

Delivering judgment, Tolit cautioned civilians to observe the law adding that they will not hesitate to imprison them once they commit crimes.

“You are the kind of people Uganda's Law was made for,” Tolit said while sentencing the two.

He advised that one would rather resort to begging other than use of fire arms to torture Ugandans.

“No one has ever been presented to court for begging. Your documents are filed and once you are brought back over the same issue you will be sentenced to life imprisonment,” Tolit said.

On February 27 this year, the duo pleaded guilty and asked for a lenient sentence.

They were on August 27, 2006, arrested by the Police in Kiyindi landing site in Buikwe district after they robbed one Connie Mukasa of sh14m at gun point.

After their arrest, they led the Police to Walukuba in Jinja municipality where they had hidden fire arms.
