Frobisha Lwanga is a comedian with Fun Factory best known for his interesting facial expressions and outrageous costumes. Carol Kasujja took him to task on why he hasn’t yet walked his finacee down the aisle
Frob, tell me a joke
Since I met you, I have been telling you jokes. Meanwhile, that is a tired pick-up line. It is so cliché. I get bored when a person meets me for the first time and asks for a joke. You guys, we are not stupid all the time.
Are you in a relationship or still a virgin?
Virgin! I am in a relationship and I have two children. But I do not know whether my fiancé is in a relationship because we are always quarrelling over small issues.
How did you meet your wife?
We had gone to film in Fort Portal under the umbrella of UNDP. When we came back to Kampala, we became close friends. We would hang out together, she would come and watch me perform and before I knew it, we were an item. But for me, I liked her the first time I laid my eyes on her in Fort Portal because she was striking. I was just playing it cool.
Do you believe the saying that all artists are cheats?
Yes we are cheats because women throw themselves at us. We get to meet so many pretty women who are willing to upgrade our friendship to another level. Temptation in the industry is tight. But I thank God, I am not easily moved. I have breaks like a BMW.
Do your children know what you do for a living?
Every Monday, my daughter is always waiting to see me on TV performing. She finds it amusing. She does not know that it is her bread and butter. The younger one is still confused, he is always asking me how I get to enter the TV.
Why aren’t you on Facebook?
The idea of Facebook is good, but I am very private. Maybe one day I will join to promote my business and plays, but not for just updating my status. I always fight with my fiancé for uploading our children’s pictures on her page.
Who picks your costume when you are going to perform?
Hehehe! Trust me, if you ask any Fun Factory member and all artists I have worked with that question, the answer will be me. I pick my costumes because I have a feeling costumes tell a character. I am very picky so I know what is best for me.
What has been your worst experience on stage?
Wow! The first day I wore a dress. It was embarrassing. I come from a single school, so it was weird and comic to see myself in a dress yet I was afraid of girls. It was not easy. In fact, after that play, my fellow students started teasing me. I was not amused.
Before you go, when are you getting married?
Why are you putting me on pressure? Well, the idea was to get married before our first born. But because I travel a lot and I am never around, when I came back, we got another child. So marriage became complicated. But I will marry because that has always been my fiancée’s dream. But on my wedding, people will have to buy themselves food and drinks.
