The media fraternity is mourning the death of veteran sports journalist James Opoka which occurred Monday morning.

Opoka passed on at 8.45am this local time at Mulago Hospital where he had been admitted with kidney complications 11 days ago.

Patrick Luwandagga, a workmate with Opoka at former national broadcaster UTV, said burial arrangments will be announced on Tuesday. His body will today be taken to his home in Bukerere, Seeta. He will be laid to rest in Lacor, Gulu.

He was first admitted at Seeta Nursing Home before being referred to Mulago.

Opoka served as a sports producer at UTV.

“He was very hardworking and was instrumental in bringing back live sports commentary. We shall dearly miss him,” noted Luwandagga.
