KASESE - A woman attempted to commit suicide at the office of the Kasese resident district commissioner, Milton Odongo, after failing to get a job.
Margaret Kiiza stormed Odongo’s office Thursday morning carrying a bottle containing what she said was poison and threatened to drink it if she did not get a job.
She also had a three-month-old baby and carried along her academic documents.
She told Odongo that she had sat for interviews five times, but had never been appointed as a teacher.
The disappointed woman said in most cases, she is asked for money to 'get her the job', which she does not have and because of that, her name is left out.
Odongo drove Kiiza to the district council, which was in session at the district headquarters in Rukooki.
He presented her grievances to the district council and asked the district service commission to be transparent.
The RDC said he had received several complaints concerning the district service commission and asked them to follow the law.
“Some people who were working as volunteers in Bwera Hospital said when time came for recruitment, none of them was considered, yet they are qualified,” Odongo said.
The district speaker, Zepher Mubingwa, said the council would convene a meeting to discuss the complaints and chart a way forward.
