KAMPALA - Over 100 structures are listed for demolition as Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) resumes campaign to rid the city of illegal structures.

KCCA Executive Directive, Jennifer Musisi said they have already notified the owners of the affected buildings.

"Reminders to them [owners] have been sent and this time round, our enforcement officers with bulldozers are moving out to raze them down," she said.

She clarified: "All illegal structures in the city will be pulled down if the developers did not comply with the law."

The city director said landlords whose building will be razed will pay KCCA for the demolition as enshrined in the Physical Planning Act.

The buildings to be demolished are those whose developers ignored the construction regulations despite warnings from the Authority.

Under the building regulations, developers are expected to submit their building plans to KCCA for approval and one is supposed to begin construction following a commencement letter.

The most affected include developers of arcades who converted their building plans from parking space into shops.
