KAMPALA - The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has released the 2012 Advanced Level exams results. 

The education and sports minister Jessica Alupo presided over the release at Statistics House in Kampala.

Generally, there is a reported increase in last year’s performance compared to the previous year. There is also an indication of a higher percentage of candidates who qualify for a certificate after scoring two princinpal passes .

A 69.4% qualification rate in the recently released results places the statistic ahead of the previous outcome, which stood at 64.0%.

Qualification for tertiary institution is better than the previous before.

The results show that female candidates out-competed their male counterparts in the two-principal passes achievement.

The females have given off a lower failure rate, which inspires the possibility that soon – in the near future – the competition with the males will stiffen, and could see the girls out-class the boys.

The arts subjects were done much better than the sciences. History, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Islam/Divinity and Geography were the best-done arts subjects.

On the other end of the academic rope, core sciences including Mathematics, were poorly performed compared to 2011.

UNEB has also made it clear that a number of candidates' results have been withheld, although the actually number is yet to be established.

A total of 404 candidates have had their results withheld for further investigations over suspected examination malpractices.

The affected Schools are Nagalama Islamic School, Gomba Global College and Lugogo KCC centre among others.

Kampala emerged the best district with 3,114 candidates with four principal passes, Wakiso came second with 2, 902, Mukono third with 913 and Masaka with 477.
A total of 715 candidates failed.
