The Police in Kampala are investigating a case in which a Makerere University lecturer is alleged to have defiled his housemaid.

They identified the lecturer as Deus Ngabirano, a 49-year-old of UCB Zone in Bukoto, Nakawa division in Kampala. Ngabirano is accused of defiling Cissy Nabutono, 17, his housemaid, who hails from Busia district in eastern Uganda.

According to the Makerere University staff profiles, Ngabirano is the assistant registrar of the school of graduate studies and holds bachelors of statistics, diploma in applied economics and masters in economics.

According to sources at Kira Road Police Station, the maid reported the case last weekend, accusing Ngabirano of defiling her several times.

The Police arrested the suspect at his home in Bukoto on Monday and subsequently opened a defilement case file against him.

However, he was released on bond on Wednesday as investigations into the matter intensified.

The Police said the file has been forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice and sanctioning.

According to the LC1 chairperson of UCB Zone, Ronald Kitimbo, the medical report carried out on Nabutono confirmed that she was being defiled.

Kitimbo said he now keeps the victim in his custody as he awaits the sanctioning of the case by the DPP.

“The girl is with me and there is no money for transport fare to send her back to Busia. However, this is the first time the suspect is being investigated for such a case,” said Kitimbo.

When contacted, Ngabirano denied committing the crime, adding that the Police should be left to do its work.
