NSSF former lawyer Dr. Joseph Byamugisha will not get the sh30b he is demanding for representing the Fund in the Alcon case because he delayed to make contractual claims.

The Fund’s corporation secretary, David Nambale, said: “Byamugisha has demanded payment for services rendered since 1998. The lawyer should not invoice us 14 years after the arbitration. At law, contractual claims cannot be made after the expiry of 6 years.”

Saturday Vision last week published an exclusive story, revealing how Byamugisha wanted a pay of sh30b in the Alcon case.

Nambale also disclosed that NSSF paid Byamugisha approximately sh500m on his account for the services over the years.

Byamugisha represented NSSF in the Alcon case for over 10-years as a privately hired lawyer before his services were terminated.

Nambale said Byamugisha’s services were terminated because the board found them wanting.

NSSF lost the case under Byamugisha four times, until the Fund adopted a new strategy, which involved terminating his services.
