Kenneth Odeke (Uganda) v Sulaiman Ashraf (Tanzania)

UGANDA Boxing Union is doing everything within its means to avoid a repeat of the chaos that undermined their last event.

UBU will use the services of two internationally certified referees at Friday’s event. Kenneth Odeke will take on Tanzania’s Sulaiman Ashraf in the main fight at the MTN Arena, Lugogo.

The union’s last event had its main fight between Zebra Ssenyange and Haruna Diba ending in brawls in and outside the ring largely because poor refereeing.

Tanzania’s Emmanuel Mlundwa, who holds International Boxing Federation and World Boxing Association badges, and World Boxing Organisation referee Francis Olando have been given the responsibility of ensuring there is sanity.

The two officials who arrive tomorrow will on Thursday and Friday also conduct a refresher course.

The other big fight of the evening will have Robert Kamya taking on Kenya’s Mark Oliech at middleweight.

Event organiser Emmanuel Mwesigwa said they have done everything within their means to avoid the anarchy that highlighted the last event.

“We are not only bringing highly qualified referees, but we are also boosting security,” explained Mwesigwa.

Victory for Odeke and Kamya will boost their chances of a short at WBO Africa titles.
