There is heavy Police deployment and so far low turn up in the ongoing Butaleja by-election.

New Vision's reporter on the ground says a small number of voters were seen queueing to cast their ballot at various polling stations.

Police spokesperson Vicente Sekatte defended the heavy police deployment, saying it is meant to ensure peaceful polls.

Voters in Butaleja have gone to polls today to elect the district woman member of parliament after the position fell vacant following the death of Cerinah Nebanda towards the close of last year.

The five candidates vying for the seat include: Felista Namwihiri (FDC), Florence Andiru Nebanda (NRM) and independent candidates Betty Hamba, Sarah Logose and Perusi Munaba.
