Reciting the Adhan (call for prayer) is often forgotten, but an important gift that a parent can give to their newborn.

The deputy director Sheikh of Sharia, Yahaya Kakungulu recently said Adhan especially for children introduces them to Islam. “Children are very sensitive, from the time they are born they adopt the behaviour of those around them. It declares the greatness and majesty of Allah to the child.

And is an invitation to Islam and to the worship of Allah,” he said.

Kakungulu lamented that most parents ignore it and instead introduce their children to worldly pleasures.

He added that other rituals such as shaving and naming of a child are also crucial to the life a newborn after the recitation of the Adhan.
