A young man lost his life in an act of bravery when a group of thugs besieged and pounded him to death as he attempted to help a tenant who had been robbed.

The incident happened Tuesday night at Sperito Banadda's home in Masajja on Busaabala Road. Frank Ssenyonga breathed his last just after he arrived at a nearby clinic where he was rushed by residents.

The tenant, Semei Wasswa, narrrated that he woke up in the dead of the night to find four thugs in his house rummaging through his property and speaking in hushed tones. He said when he attempted to shout one of them clobbered him with a blunt object and ordered him to shut up if he still wanted to live. He said they covered him in a blanket and continued ransacking the house.

When they were leaving, he said, he grabbed the one trailing and raised an alarm which attracted Frank. Sylivia Namirimu, a sister to Frank, said one of the thugs grabbed her brother by the neck while the rest pounded him with bricks that were lying in the compound.

Frank's father said he came out to help when he heard his son's desperate cry for help. In scuffle to help his son and tenant who were battling the thugs, Banadda was severely bitten and is now nursing a wound on his finger.

Wasswa said as more residents woke up to the chaos, three of the thugs managged to flee, while one was nabbed and clobbered to death. The death thug was wielding a hammer that had been used to hit Wasswa.                                                                Mzee Banadda mourns his son

Gerald Atuhayirwe, the Kikajjo police post boss in Namasuba urged residents to be security alert and to try and contact the Police for help in the shortest time possible because these thugs are usually armed.
