Nakawa Magistrates court has charged a businesswoman for allegedly dumping her four week-old born baby in a pit latrine.

Nagudi Fatina, 18, a resident of Kasokoso, Kira town Council in Wakiso district appeared before the Nakawa chief Magistrate, Joy Kabaje on Wednesday and charged with attempted murder of her daughter Shamira Namata.

Court heard that on October 26, 2012, in Kasokoso, Kira Town council in Wakiso district, the accused with malicious intentions attempted to kill Namata by dumping her in her neighbour’s latrine.

“Trying to kill your own born baby by dumping it in a pit latrine shows that the accused doesn’t have a heart,” said Kabaje.

Court heard that on the fateful day, the accused at around midday dumped her daughter in a neighbour’s pit latrine.

The baby was however, luckily discovered by the neighbour who heard the baby cry from the manhole when she had gone to ease herself.

The neighbor only identified as Nalongo notified the local authorities and the police that came to the rescue of the innocent Namata in time, consequently leading to Nagudi’s arrest. The case was reported at Kira Road Police station.  

In her defence, Nagudi who has been on remand in Luzira Prison since November 6, 2012 pleaded guilty and through her lawyer, Jeff Bogere Mukhwana asked court for forgiveness saying she is remorseful and regrets what she did, adding that she has reformed.

She said she did not intend to murder her own baby adding that she did not realize what she was doing. Nagudi also added that she came to her senses after she had already dumped the baby in the pit.

She was released on court bond of sh600, 000, not cash and ordered to go pick her baby from Sanyu baby’s Home where she is being taken care of.

Kabaje further ordered her to report to court every Friday of the week with the baby.
