Business has resumed at the Court of Appeal, land and civil divisions of the High Court in Kampala following an end to a two-week power blackout.

On January 22, power was disconnected from the courts that occupy three floors on the 12-storey Twed Towers on Kafu road after the Judiciary failed to pay an accumulated electricity bill of sh38m.

Deputy judiciary spokesperson Harriet Nassali yesterday said the debt had been cleared.

Meanwhile, traders on Kampala Road in the city centre have experienced a power blackout for the last three days.

Traders dealing in electronics, foodstuffs and owners of photo studios stretching from Shell Capital on Kampala Road to Baker’s World are the most affected.

The traders New Vision spoke to said Umeme assured them that they would sort out the problem.

“We have not had power since Saturday. Our electrical equipment is breaking down and this has affected our business,” Canon World managing director Thobhani Kaushik said.

An official at Umeme said they had sent a technical team to rectify the problem.
