Wednesday: Rwanda v Uganda

After securing his first call on the Uganda Cranes team, 19-year old defender Fahad Kawooya has promised to do what it takes for him to replace retired defence kingpin Ibrahim Sekagya  in three years’ time.

Kawooya has manned KCCA’s central defence at Lugogo since 2009 after helping Uganda’s U-17 team win the CECAFA championship title in Khartoum, Sudan. But despite his sparkling performances, he could not break into the national senior team.

Kawooya, who has a brilliant sense of positioning and game reading, is among the 18 players Cranes coach Robert Williamson named yesterday for an international friendly against Rwanda’s Amavubi Stars due in Kigali tomorrow.

“I have been around for some time and I believe I’m making the Cranes squad at the right time. It is good I’m starting on the national team with a friendly. I will do my best to be like (Ibrahim) Sekagya. In three years I want to be like him,” Kawooya said soon after Williamson named the team.

Sam Kabugo is the other new name on the squad which Williamson said should be preparing to breakthrough on to the 2014 World Cup qualifier next match.

Tonny Odur has been included on the team. Rwanda is preparing to host Mali
