Grief engulfed residents of Katanga slum in Wandegeya, a Kampala suburb after a man was stabbed to death by unknown assailants.

Police identified the deceased as Julius Ndoloirwe, 33, a general merchandise hawker.

According to eye witnesses, Ndoloirwe was stabbed on Friday night at around 1:00am as he attempted to rescue a middle-aged prostitute only identified as Resty from being gang-raped by unknown men.

The area chairman Richard Mugaiga said Ndoloirwe who had already gone to bed was awakened by Resty’s loud screams for help as she attempted to disentangle herself from the grip of the men.

A scuffle ensued as Ndoloirwe attempted to free the prostitute from the grip of the assailants and was stabbed with a kitchen knife on the belly subsequently unleashing his intestines.

Resty is said to have continued making alarms which attracted more residents to crime scene.

They reportedly found the deceased bleeding profusely and rushed him to Mulago national referral hospital for treatment where he was later pronounced dead by doctors at around 3:00am.

According to Wandegeya police chief, Julius Caesar Tusinguire, officers have arrested Resty to help in investigations into the matter especially in identifying the culprits.
